Featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla Sign, Meg’s song sparked this movement for everyone to embrace their inner & outer hotness, empower each other and assert unapologetic dominance in career, social and romantic entanglements. And it’s back in full swing!

Coach Meg said it best at the BET Awards in 2019, “It’s just basically about women — and men — just being unapologetically them, having a good ass time, hyping up your friends, doing you, not giving a damn about what nobody gotta say about it,” she said. Anyone can have a Hot Girl Summer, as long as you have the right attitude, she explained. “You definitely have to be a person that can be the life of the party and just a bad b*tch.”

After last summer, the hopes are high for a Hot Girl Summer redo in the upcoming months. But how does one go about having a summer of fulfillment, fun and friskiness while still being corona-cautious and conscientious? Well, let’s just say you’ve come to the right place. Below are a few steps you can take to have a scorching hot summer… and no, I’m not talking about degrees!

Recognize Current Negativity

You can’t be at your hottest when there is negativity weighing you down. Take a critical look at your current living, work and social relationships and distinguish if they are positive or negative. This is easier said than done, I know, but after realizing you’re current housemate’s excessive messiness is burdening you — ahhhh, I can already hear the sigh of relief.

Being a hot girl (or guy) is about being carefree, so take this time before the warm weather hits to break away from life anchors. Rediscover what makes you feel empowered and excited in life and see who gets on board with you. Negativity is also found in clothing, horrendous artwork or a daunting to-do list and it’s about damn time to tackle it and punt it straight to the curb.

A Little Self Care Goes a Loooooong Way

Simply put: put yourself first. Make that nail appointment, ball out on a new outfit or take yourself out to a fancy smancy dinner. It’s okay to put a little dent in the bank if it makes you feel that good-good.

Changing up your style, hair or just overall mood will attribute to a glowing you. There’s a famous quote that reads, “If we don’t change, we don’t grow. If we don’t grow, we aren’t really living” and investing in yourself can foster that growth.

Flaunt What Ya Got

Be confident, show yourself off and wear the crown. The key to having a successful hot girl summer is feeling unstoppable and knowing that when you walk into a room, it’ll be all about you. Make your passions known, step outside of your social barriers, ignore the haters and connect with different people. Be a bad b*itch!

Now, confidence may be a challenging trait to achieve, but finding time to love yourself can assist with gaining more and more.  A 2009 study published in the Journal of Personality found that self-compassion leads to more consistent confidence.

Make This Summer, Your Summer

It’s time to have the hot girl summer we all dearly missed in 2020! Put yourself first and be fearless. Make this summer steaming hot and carry that energy into fall, winter and next spring. There’s no need to go out clubbing and tallying one-night-stands to get the full hot girl summer experience because it’s more important to focus on yourself and pure selfless confidence. Meg once said, “It’s a hot girl summer so you know she kinda lit” so let’s get it!
